Alan Hall, a Marietta native and Director Emeritus of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County and current State Library of Ohio Board Member, spoke to our members during our November meeting. His topic was about his direct line ancestor, John Gray, the last VERIFIED surviving veteran of the American Revolution.

His presentation was informative and entertaining as he went through the steps of proving his relationship to Mr. Gray and his verification of Gray as the truly proven last veteran of the War for Independence.

John Gray resided in Hiramsburg, near Caldwell in Noble County, Ohio for forty years. "In 1829, he followed the Federal Trail inland landing at Hiramsburg where he would remain the rest of his life in the little log cabin he constructed surrounded by his fields of grain."
